One of the most common off-road upgrades for 4×4, Jeep and truck owners is lighting. When off-road adventures extend into the night, many factory lighting systems leave a lot to be desired.  Upgrading your headlights and/or supplementing with additional aftermarket options can provide much needed improved visibility.  Supplemental lighting can be broken up into zones based on where you are looking to add night-time visibility. Some of the top off-road Truck accessories are bumper mounted lights are generally great for adding close range visibility.  Fog lights or pods can also be mounted in or on the bumper, and come in clear or amber which can greatly improve navigating through dense fog, snow or heavy rain.  Cowl, A-pillar, or roof mounted spot lights can significantly improve long range visibility, which is particularly useful for high speed off-road driving.  For powering auxiliary lighting and other top off-road accessories, we recommend a controller which provides both a fuse and relay for each circuit as well as a sleek customizable button pad. The two we use most are the MLC from Rough Country and the SPod from Switch Pros.

Is Recovery gear essential?

Recovery gear is another essential top off-road accessory for jeep and truck owners. Winches are an indispensable tool for getting your vehicle out of difficult situations, and there are many different options available depending on your vehicle’s weight and the type of terrain you’ll be tackling. Installing a winch is important, even if you always adventure with people who already have them because you never know when multiple winches will be needed, or someone else’s may fail to operate!  A great rule to keep in mind with regard to recovery gear is “expect to self-recover”. Synthetic winch ropes, soft shackles, and recovery straps with loops instead of metal hooks are the safest options, and what we primarily recommend.  Factor 55 makes some top-quality winching products as mentioned above, and we install their winch line shackle mounts regularly!  Traction boards, such as those made by MaxTrax, are a great recovery tool for sand, snow, or mud and can be used in combination with other recovery efforts to aid in freeing a stuck vehicle.

Another way to create one of the best overlanding setups is with roof racks, they are another important accessory for off-road jeep and truck owners, providing a secure and convenient way to carry gear and equipment on your vehicle.
